Photoshop scripts are programs that automate tasks in Photoshop similar to how Photoshop actions do. Photoshop scripts, however, are much powerful than actions. They have additional functionality such as the ability to create custom dialogs and perform branching. This allows the script to interact with the user of the script as well as make decisions based on conditions within the image itself.

Ever been working on an image and struggled to find which particular combination of adjustments you preferred? Well, Roger Cavanagh and I have collaborated to build a set of JavaScript programs that will help: The Variations Suite. Each script in the suite will display up to eight previews of your image with different processing treatments applied.

Each component in the suite will work in a similar fashion, so once you are familiar with the operation of one, you will know how to use them all. When using a  V-Suite script in preview mode, the selected treatments can be applied to the current image, or if you get the Plus version the chosen settings may be saved for later use in batch mode.
