This certainly describes my musical choices. Instead of trying to explain my musical favorites, I will simply post artist and album favorites below and update as I find new music.
Sara Jackson Holman – When You Dream.
Bet you haven’t heard of her or her music. I first heard her voice in the soundtrack of the last scene of the final episode of season 2 of the television show “Castle” on ABC. When I heard her voice, I was drawn to the music, but didn’t recognize her or the song. Thank-you Google for helping me find the music. Been hooked on the album ever since. This is not mainstream pop music. You can listen to samples by clicking the link to Amazon. The only place I have found that you can buy individual songs is through iTunes. I bought the entire album from Amazon because I don’t care to buy music from Apple. There isn’t a single track that I will routinely skip but my favorite tracks are Cellophane, Red Ink, and California Gold Rush. To get the most out of her music, listen carefully to the lyrics as they are well crafted. There isn’t a lot of biographical information about Sara on the web as she is both very young and new in the music scene. This is her first and only album, hopefully more will be on the way. When you listen to this ponder the fact that she was only 21 when this album was made. Amazing heart and soul for one so young! If you wind up buying this album, don’t pull your hair out when you listen to the track Poppi’s Red Dress – the song has 2 minutes of silence at the beginning… Crazy kids…
Imogen Heap – Speak for Yourself.
A friend of mine who has musical tastes similar to mine asked me if I had heard of Imogen Heap. “No” was my reply. After listening to this album, I was engrossed. While this album has been around since 2005, it was new to me! Hard to describe, Heap’s music is Pop with sampled digital sounds / electronica and rock. Tough to catagorize, I suggest listening to Goodnight and Go or Just for Now from this album to get an idea what she is about. Heap has an earlier album “I Megaphone” that was released in 1998. I Megaphone is a good album, but hasn’t gotten nearly the personal playtime I have given “Speak for Yourself.” Her most recent album was released in 2009 and is titled “Ellipse.” Ellipse is a good album but is my least favorite of the three. I am listening to “Ellipse” as I type this and to be honest, the music is pretty good on this album too. I suppose I should remind that while I can easily rank all three of her albums from most to least favorite, none of them disappoint. Even if you don’t recognize her name, Imogen Heap’s music is frequently selected for the soundtrack of popular movies and television shows.
